About This Event

Celebrate the permanent protection of Hale's land and the success of the Campaign for Kids, Conservation, and Community!

Event Details

Join us as we toast Hale’s historic conservation achievement, reflect on an impactful year, and connect with friends new and old. We’ll recognize individuals and groups that rallied to permanently protect Hale (now Greater Boston’s largest privately owned, publicly accessible open space protected by conservation restriction); honor staff members and volunteers who’ve made a difference in children’s lives; and welcome writer, speaker, and lifelong adventurer Mardi Fuller as this year’s keynote speaker.

Who should feel at home in the great outdoors? It’s a question Mardi has explored on mountains, through media, and in community. She has dedicated her life and career to making sure the answer is clear: everyone. We look forward to hearing Mardi’s message as we commemorate Hale’s own powerful promise of belonging: the official conservation of more than 1,100 acres, permanently protecting nature for all, forever.

Nature for All, Forever

Hale is committed to making educational and recreational opportunities accessible for as many people as possible. We thank those who choose to “pay it forward” so everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, can enjoy events like this. If you require free or reduced price tickets in order to participate in this event, please contact Sam Ronan at sronan@hale.education.

Featured Speaker

Mardi Fuller
Keynote Address

Mardi Fuller advocates for racial equity through writing, speaking and community building. Mardi is a lover of nature, and her mission is to support communities of color to self-determine in outdoor recreation and in the conservation movement. A lifelong backcountry adventurer, in January 2021, she became the first known Black person to hike all 48 of New Hampshire’s high peaks in winter. Her relationship with the outdoors became the subject of an award-winning short film by Paula Champagne, “Mardi & the Whites,” which explores her decades-long relationship with the White Mountains and her journey toward finding liberation and belonging in a landscape and culture where she has often been the only Black person. She is a contributing writer to The Boston Globe, Outside and SKI magazines, Melanin Basecamp, and more. Mardi has also appeared on WCVB’s Chronicle, WMUR’s Project Community, and the BIPoC Outside Podcast. She lives in Boston and works in climate policy as a marketing and communications executive. Mardi organizes hiking, skiing, and climbing events centering Black people and communities of color, and serves as a board member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
