Juliana Carvajal Castrillón

Outdoor Learning Guide, Intrepid Academy at Hale

Juliana helps design and facilitate empowering educational experiences for Greater Boston high school students, integrating culturally sustaining curricula with outdoor and experiential learning. Her work reflects a deep commitment to education, equity, and community-building through nature. Born and raised in Medellín, Colombia, Juliana brings a global and culturally responsive lens to her teaching. Before joining Hale, she worked as a high school Spanish teacher, taught heritage speakers, coached basketball and track, and served as an interpreter for families. Juliana moved to the US in 2020 and is an avid trail runner and outdoor adventurer, enjoying ultra marathons, biking, hiking, yoga, and snowboarding. She also volunteers with Latino Outdoors Boston and Escala Boston, helping create inclusive spaces for Latine communities to experience the outdoors as a place of belonging, healing, and storytelling. Juliana earned a B.A. in Social Communication and Journalism from Pontificia Bolivariana University in Medellín, Colombia and an M.A. in Education from Gordon College.
